One of several shots of the Sofa Pavilion. It is sometimes wrongly named the Pavilion of Kara Mustafa Paşa. It was constructed or renovated by Ahmet III and later redecorated in 1752 by Mahmut I in the Turkish rococo.
Mahmut in 1755 received a number of gifts from the French king, Louis XV, the only surviving article amongst those gifts can be seen here: a brazier of similor - a gold-coloured brass alloy - signed by noted designer Jean-Claude Duplessis. It once belonged to a pair and combines a traditional Ottoman shape with a full-bodied Rococo design of swirling leafy forms. (Source: Ünver Rüstem: Ottoman Baroque).
From it one can see into the garden below, where sportive events and flowers could be viewed.
Only part of the Pavilion is open to the public, it contained a prayer room, a room for the consumption of cold beverages and so forth.
