Overlook at the north end of the Kaiparowits Plateau, which contains rugged tablelands dissected by countless, mostly dry, canyons.
The Kaiparowits Plateau is one of the most remote and least visited wild areas in the southwestern United States.
Rugged landscape, isolation, and sheer size have made the Kaiparowits a refuge for a remarkable variety of plants and animals.
The Plateau features a climax forest of thousand-year-old juniper and pinyon trees, an exceptionally large and diverse population of raptors,
spectacular displays of metamorphosed rock created by natural coal fires, and some 300 recorded archeological sites.
