Chimneys

Kodachrome Basin, Utah

Kodachrome Basin’s stone sentries tower over the valley floor, ranging from six feet tall to a massive 170 feet high.
Chimney Rock is tallest of these unusual formations, which are believed by many geologists to be ancient geysers (about 180 million years old)
much like those still active at Yellowstone National Park. Over the millennia, the geysers filled with colorful layers of sediment
(likely from forceful seismic activity) which are visible through the eroded outer layer of Entrada sandstone,
giving Kodachrome Basin State Park its vibrant, other-worldly appearance.
