Red-eared Slider

Mud Lake

Red-eared Sliders are not native to Canada and enter our ponds and wetlands when people release pets they no longer wish to care for. These turtles can grow up to 33 cm and live more than 30 years in captivity, which makes them unsuitable as pets. Unfortunately, turtles released into the wild either die from our cold winters or out-compete our native species if they survive.
