Margaret McDearmid Williams & Lucius L. Williams

Margaret McDearmid Williams (1844-1918) was the second wife of Lucius Williams. Catherine Garrison, his first wife, died in 1863 in the middle of the Civil War. Lucius Williams was born in either 1832,1833, or 1834 -- we are not quite sure -- he suffered 5 gunshot wounds on May 20, 1895, and died the next day, May 21, 1895. His story is an interesting one. [We are deeply indebted to the Williams & Kelly families of Eatonton, Ga., and Don McWaters, a descendant also, of St. Simons Island, Ga. for the use of this photograph. This is the first and only photo we have seen of Lucius Williams.] Note: Thanks to the work of Les Williams the online copy is now lighter and more viewable. Thanks, Les, for doing this.

The following info came from the Ga. 49th Regt. History:
Williams, Lucius L.- Jr. 2d Lieutenant March 4, 1862 . Elected
2d Lieutenant June 28, 1862 ; 1st Lieutenant December 29, 1862;
Captain February 23, 1864 . Captured at Petersburg, Va. April 2,
1865 . Sent to Old Capitol Prison at Washington, D. C. April
1865 . Transferred to Johnson's Island, O. and released June
20 or 24, 1865 . (Born in 1833.) Note: Various sources give different
birth years: 1832,33, and 34. Even his birthdate month (April or
December ??) is in question. Two tombstones attest to this.

I know that Cptn Lucius Williams was captured and escaped five times in the Civil War. Does anyone know which branch of the Civil War (or which division) that he was enlisted?
