Apologies in advance if you have received this in error. if so, please inform me to be removed from the list.
If you don't recognize some of the names of the classmates below, well...
that's what yearbooks and reunions are for :

Please pass this email on to other classmates.
I'd like to keep this going, adding their responses to this list or one of yours...
as a reminder that hopefully for all of us, we have many years ahead to reunite again.

Bert, Hazel, glad to hear you received your DVD copy, same with Xavier
and Ann Miyamoto.
Enjoy, as Norman intended.

Mahalo Gerri, for passing on a DVD copy to my kalabash kuz, Bobby.

Carolyn - Amoy and Eugenio - you both should be receiving copies shortly,
as will Tony, Francine and Manny.

Much Mahalo again to Slug.

I messed up and forgot to inform Carl of Irene Rocha's request even after
posting of it on the blog.
If you made a request and it seems like it's been 'kinda long yeah', I may
have unsurprisingly screwed up again.
Please do inform me or Carl straight away.
Carl has been extraordinarily exemplary in sending out the copies... that's
of course if he's been notified.

Norman, one of our classmates who is really appreciative of your great
offer, did note however that your Elvis collection is incomplete.
No problem, I'll offer to add those songs by me on karaoke.

Thanks for the dvd.
Played Elvis all day today at work.
Noticed there are no Sun records like "Mystery Train" & "I Don't
Care If the Sun Don't Shine", early Elvis records.

Thanks again

I really do need to reiterate... the DVD copies were meant to be distributed
to classmates only.
This to avoid even the slightest appearance of a commercial undertaking,
apologies if I didn't initially make that clear.
So please, yes, multiple copies requests are fine IF they are meant to be
passed on to other classmates.
As someone else said 'if they like, they can go make their own copies'.

Also, again, please inform me or Carl on whether you have received your
DVD copy or copies as requested.
That will help to avoid duplicate mailings... and/or missed mailings.

I've managed to add in the artist, year, and recording length onto the list
of song selections wherever it was possible.
That should make it easier to see what's in the voluminous collection
that Norman has so generously shared.

Ditto here Pearl, much Mahalo to Slug.

Ahh, the old 45s and 78s... wish I still had those.
I grew up listening to my older sister's 78s and still love that type of music.
Nuk, I believe the type of Japanese songs you're referring to may be the
'modern enka', a type of sentimental ballad.

The playlist referred to by Nuk is actually several lists of the songs on
Norman's DVD.
They aren't playlists in the strictest sense of the word as they won't play
a song if clicked on, they are simply listings of the songs.
But they should help in knowing what's in each of the different folders
since they contain so many selections.
The links to those lists are in my reply to Nuk.
As always, if any of the links don't seem to be working, just copy and paste
the link into your browser of choice.

Thanks to Carl, Gerri and others for the headsup on those who have
requested/received the DVDs.
There are around 70 at my last count a short while ago.
For those who have already received their copy or have made copies for
others, please confirm that by informing me, Carl, or Pearl, which
would allow us to check off our lists to avoid duplicate mailings.

Hazel (Bert), Muriel, you are on the list and may have already received
your DVD copy as of this writing of the blog.

Pam, what are the chances that somoone would have one of those hard to
come by Surfers albums... and a classmate yet.
Our classmates always seem to come through in so many different ways.

You're on the list Mike, and much like the others, may have already
received your copy.
Great to hear from you.

Brenda, Robert, yes, absolutely so generous of Norman.
AFAIK those gatherings are simply get-togethers among groups or old
HS clubs of classmates who happen to see each other often.
Gerri for one though, as she told me, tries to contact different classmates
for each of the gatherings she does.
Doesn't always seem that way from the photos but I'm guessing many aren't
able to attend, whereas some seem always available at the right times.
I for one am there merely as a 'reporter' of sorts, taking photos and such,
and many of the photos of these different gatherings are sent to me since
I don't or can't attend.

Roger, Irene, much like many ot the others, I'm sure you've already received
your DVD copy.

Aloha,
Hal

Thanks for the quick reply and info.
When I retired years ago, I tried to collect the oldies songs but found it an
impossible task being that I didn't know a lot of titles and artists.
I had no money to buy those 45 records when in school, but I'm glad I had
a cheap radio to listen to.
There were also a lot of one hit wonders, but I couldn't recall the titles.
I ended up buying people's cassette tape collections off ebay, including tape
decks and receivers/amps.
I think I still have some 78 records from an aunt, but I can't play them.
I tried playing one years ago, and the record just crumbled into six trillion
pieces when I removed it from its sleeve.
I also have a cassette tape of one female Japanese singer that was popular
in Japan in the late 60s I think.
I wanted a CD, but it cost $50 back then.
Female Japanese singers were popular back then.
I don't recall the type of songs they sang; not pop Japanese songs,
but more old style Japanese singing; I forgot what they were called.
Again, thanks to Norman for the fantastically awesome collection.

WHOA Gerri ! You need to get out of your shell and write more to the blog.
Again, have to agree with her on not only the mind-boggling amount of great
music on the DVD but also Norman's truly tremendous generosity.
Speaking of generosity, I received a letter from Clifford (Slug) Young a
short while ago with a very generous donation to the KHS 1960 reunion
committee for use in their endeavors on behalf of our classmates.
Mahalo Slug for the sizable donation and words of support for the reunion
committee and classmates.

Below is a link to the pics that Gerri mentioned.

http://www.pbase.com/halinhi/assagio31aug

All those in attendance received a copy of Norman's music DVD and Norman
passed on to Carl Yasuda a large batch of DVDs for distribution to those
classmates requesting a copy.
As Gerri has noted below, Norman very emphatically refused any kind of
compensation for his huge music collection and for the discs/equipment
used to produce the DVD discs, he was simply happy to share and know that
his classmates would enjoy the music and memories.

Thanks for the reminder Gerri... almost needed it... again.
I forgot to post on the last email blog of Gerri's request for anyone with any of
the old Hawaiian Surfers music albums or songs to contact her.
As she explains below, those are extremely difficult to come by.
Also below, in my reply to her request, is a link to a very interesting article on
the original Hawaiian Surfers group, maybe the finest to come out of Hawaii.

Gary, Elsie, Tremaine, Rebecca, you are all on the list sent to the reunion
committee and Carl Yasuda... Frances has already received hers.
As the above post for Gerri, there will be no charge other than for packaging,
which should be quite minimal, and postage.

Thanks for the words Doug, quite appropriate in light of the kindness shown
by Norman and the others.

Ann, Louise, Xavier, you all are also on the list... Ann, I definitely do remember
you, I'm pretty good at remembering faces but suck pretty bad at names... so,
I'll remember you when next we meet but may call you a different name... comes
with that advancing age... just ask the other classmates.

Aloha and have a safe Labor Day,
Hal

Harold, On Mrs. Chang, while I was not blessed as a student of hers,
I always was aware of her and of the great respect commanded by her
students who often spoke of her and seemed in great awe of her.
About a year ago Mrs. Chang was at a Chinese Club banquet with her
family, she looked remarkably the same, slim, black hair, pleasant
and we had a short chat.
Her son said that her mind is clear and she remembers most of her students.
I mentioned that I was not a student but an admirer.
Getting back to you, I'm curious, as a special seventh grade neophyte, what
did you do or have as a talent to be selected as our treasurer, did you
bring a mango everyday to our counselor/teacher....what?
But then if you can't recall what happened over 60 years ago, I understand.
Just wondering.

Harold, you and everyone at our age are always forgiven for senior moments.
WOW, wonderful memorable tales about this incredible group that I wish I
had collected all of their music.
Their music was everywhere and unfortunately one tends to take them for
granted during that era.
I used to chat with the last Surfer, Silva, who was a member of the Elks Club
and he stated that it would be difficult to find their music because of the
record company who controlled their contract much to their chagrin and
"ignorance of contracts" at the time.
I dearly wish that we somehow can retrieve all of their one of a kind Hawaiian
style music from someone one day.
