Upper Hall
The Upper Hall of the town hall was originally the law court and the room where council meetings and banquets took place. The German writer Rudolf Alexander Schröder called this hall, which is a beautiful blend of the Gothic and Renaissance styles, "a shrine to Bremen civic pride". The Schaffermahl (mariners' meal), an occasion when merchants, ship owners and ship's captains meet and talk, has been held here every February since 1545.
