Wand with a twist

My younger grandson's friend so admired my grandson's wand that my grandson begged me to make one for his friend as a birthday gift.
I'd like to tell you that the spiral was the result of good planning, but in fact it was just a lucky side effect.
I started with the usual "sandwich" of a bit of cherry between two pieces of sycamore. Just as an experiment,
I mounted both ends of the work about 3/8" off centre, 180° apart, on the lathe. The taper shape,
in combination with the offsets, created the illusion of twist.
