Bird's nest fungi (Cyathus)

Ferguson Forest

More enchanting fungi. This may be Striate Bird's Nest fungi. These, like the earth star fungi rely on raindrops to release the spores which are encased in "eggs" or spore sacs in the cups. These fungi are often found on wood chips in gardens, or as here, along a forested trail, growing on small bits of woody debris. I brought home a small bit of wood on which several of these fungi were clustered, to try for a closer shot. This is one.

Interesting fungi. I've seen another kind of Bird's Nest fungi, but not one as fancy as these.
