We operated out of Ouray, Colorado today and spent quite a bit of time in the field. Lots of landscape photography including a sunrise and sunset. Since it was going ot be a crystal clear night, our instructors decided that we ought to have a go at astrophotography. I had done this before so I headed out and starting taking pictures. If you have never experienced stars in a dark sky, you have missed something. There was absolutely no stray light. The stars were unbelievably numerous. The Milky way was aglow from horizon to horizon. This particular picture was taken looking to the west. How cool is that. I wish to return to the four corners area and spend a week doing astrophotography. We didn't have a chance to try star trails, but that is something that I love to do. Next year for sure. Here is a star trail image I did last year in Arches National Park.
