Kanzleigebäude (office building), which construction started in the late-1400s. The building, with shops and a long arcade in the bottom level, sits attached to the Lübeck Rathaus (town hall) and was used over the years for various functions, from police station to court rooms. In 1588 and 1614 the building was expanded in the style of the brick Renaissance. It was the seat of notaries and town clerk. At the beginning of the 19th century were in the Chancellery building including the passport and stamp office.Afterwards the building served as a police station and has been referred to during this time by the citizens of Lübeck as the largest machine in the city. It was namely often the case that young people with stones smashed the window and down immediately came out a cop. There is a bay window over the hare gate on the east side of the building.
