Near the end of the rut, a depleted bull elk dozes in a meadow with just his antlers visible. He has sacrificed all to maintain his harem of cows safe from the males that would take them. Now, he will enter the winter season in poor condition.

A cold dark storm in the background moves toward him. I hope he survives.
