Pluvier grand-gravelot (Common Ringed Plover) 4/5

Saint-Armand

Commentaires de François Grenon spécialiste des limicoles aussi sur place.
Juvenile found by Ghislaine Boulet at about 10h45. Bird seemed associating with a small group of ~7 Semipalmated Plovers (SP) up to 13h00, allowing for many side-by-side comparisons. Observed 10h45-11h00 at close range in ideal light while roosting crouched on dry mud high on the 'beach'. Bird got up and stretched at 11h00; conditions then allowed for perfect viewing of the absence of webbing in the internal angle and very small webbing in the external angle. All comparisons in the following text are with SP. Bird about 10-15% larger (by far the easiest way to locate the bird at a distance). Bill slightly longer and thinner. Upperparts paler due to slight gray cast on brown feathers. Dark loral area reaches bill gape. No visible eye ring. Secondary elements noted: thick breast band interrupted at center, thick white supercilium extending uninterrupted behind eye. Typical 'poo-ee' call heard once. Many diagnostic photos taken by other observers.
