Frenckell Square, Tampere

Coppersmith Abraham Häggman built 1785 a copper mill and a paper mill here in Frenckell. Originally the Frenckell factory buildings were plastered white.

Architect Birger Federley designed the current redbricked factory area in 1903-1920. The paper mill was owned by the Rosenlew family.
The family decided to shut down operations in Tampere in the 1920's and by mid 1930's the plot with its buildings became property of the city.
The entire former factory area was meant to be torn down, but war intervened. Currently, the buildings are housing a theatre and office space.

I work in the building seen on the left. It's called Siberia :-)

Lovely photo of this beautiful architecture, Anitta. Not sure I'd want to be sent to Siberia though. :)
