We had a travel day and ended up in Tucumcari, New Mexico. I just love the way that word sounds. As part of our evening drill, we often go to McDonalds and get salads for dinner. When we walked into the McDonalds we were greeted with these kiosks. They are transitioning from humans taking orders to machines taking orders. We chatted with the manager and he said they will shut down the cash registers very soon. I guess they chose Tucumcari for the experiment because it is in a out of the way place. This is what you get when you end up with a $15 minimum wage. The youngsters who were getting jobs at McDonalds will no longer get them. Nobody ever thinks about the collateral damage. All they want is a rallying cry for ignorant people who can't think beyond a sound bite.
Boycott McDonalds John. Minimum wage here in Ontario is $11.25, going up to $11.70 on 1 Oct. And McDonalds are going to get a lot of people unhappy when the machine breaks.
