Milkweed tussock moth caterpillars ( Euchaetes egle), #8238

Marlborough Forest

These caterpillars have chomped their way through several milkweed leaves, the only things that were eating the leaves. No monarch butterfly larvae found on any of the hundreds of milkweeds here.

Super capture of this feast. They must be voracious. V.

That's a whole lot of caterpillars! We finally saw two Monarchs today. My sister, who lives about 20 miles away had about 20 at one time on a liatris plant.
Pierre Martin20-Aug-2016 02:36
they look very hungry, great image of that bunch!
Nirvan Hope20-Aug-2016 01:57
The poor plants don't stand a chance against this voracious army.

tantamount to clear-cuts...they seem as destructive as humans, if on a smaller scale...a chaotic scene well portrayed..
