Two soldiers per bed is the rule here in the barracks at Fort Lennox. Soldiers were recruited for a 25 year term. Imagine 25 years here in these barracks. Desertion was a concern among officers and attempts among the soldiers not uncommon, so at night the soldiers were locked in the barracks. If at any time a solider was caught deserting, they were sentenced to lashes, up to 150, with a doctor monitoring the deserter and the sentence being carried out until the deserter was either near fatally wounded or the complete set of lashes was completed.
