At Heceta Beach

The beaches along the Oregon Coast are, for the most part, available to the public to enjoy. Heceta Beach, north of Florence, at one location, near Driftwood Shores Resort, is accessible by a path that leads to the beach from a parking area. We tried to go down to the beach to explore, but the wind was really blowing and we had to give up. Before leaving I shot a few pictures, hoping that no sand would get to the lens. This is one of the images.

You managed to get such a great shot despite the weather! Even though I was distracted by the wind whipping sand in our faces, I still marveled at how beautiful the sand undulating on the ground was. Thank you SO much for taking us on this trip with you -- not only was it a rare opportunity for Brevyn and I to travel, but the fact that we got to do with with you and Grammy made it a true privilege and joy. There were so many great moments: when you and Grammy showed up in your car smiling at us, when we sat down at that great restaurant and had such delicious food, when we stood inside that gazebo looking out at the water, when Grammy took us around to various little shops full of curiosities, when you two told us so many stories on the car ride... I'm sad that I forgot my camera because I would've loved to get some good shots of seashells, sands and the water, but maybe it's for the best - the sand might have damaged the lens!

This sure shows the effects of the wind! I want to get down the coast with my MH sometime soon. Linda S

That's very pleasing, Vern. The diffuse light works well on the contours. V

I like the gully in the foreground. I always have filters on my lenses when I'm on the coast. The filters end up looking like they've been sandblasted..in a machine shop.

Absolutely beautiful beach shot!

Very nice Vern.

Oh, isn't that pretty! So inviting too. I don't mind wind, but the hard-blowing sand would definitely be a deterrent.

Nice shot with good use of foreground.
Strange but reminds me of a beach on Gran Canaria.

Nice textures in the sand - hope your lens survived!

fine shot...the sand seems in waves here...your coastal winds can be fierce..

No shortage of sand

Excellent image. I never thought of beaches up there in the Northwest. I imagined the shoreline as rugged and rocky.

Good photo of the blowing sand and drifting. I recently traded in a Tamron zoom lens. Didn't get much for it owing to the sand in it! The zoom lens sucks it in and I spend about half my time these days at the beach. BTW -the new lens, the updated Tmron of the one traded in has more zoom range, it more compact and about two/thirds the weight of the old one. I don't know hw they do that.

You have some nice beaches in Oregon. I ruined one of my pre-digital cameras doing exactly what you attempted here - taking pictures on a beach in California on a windy day. The sand got in!
