Engelberg. Monastery Church

The monastery in Engelberg impressed with his buildings throughout the town. Already in 1120 it was founded by Konrad Sellenbüren and subsequently attracted monks from the monastery of Muri added. This managed and expanded the facilities with much success. A devastating fire in the monastery destroyed the monastery, however, and was rebuilt in its present form. The monastery is one of the greatest Baroque areas in Central Switzerland. In addition, the monastery beherbert the largest organ in Switzerland.Today, a high school and several businesses are located in the monastery. The tasks of the monks have been largely derived from the needs of the population. Even today, the monks of the monastery and employees in education at the collegiate school, the pastoral care of the parish, in various trade and service companies around the Kloste as well as the cultural and natural heritage are involved. The basic rules for the Klosteleben were developed around 1500 years ago. At that time, Benedict of Nursia created (480-547), the monastic rules, which form the basis of living together until today. The monks should not neglect prayer and worship alongside the work.
