A pretty little quiet lockstation in the woods. The picturesque lockmasters house, built in 1842 as a one story defensible structure and expanded with the wood frame second floor in 1893 when the threat of American invasion had long past, is one of only 3 on the Rideau that still serves as the residence for the lockmaster. At all other lockstations the lockmaster lives offsite and commutes. A trail that skirts the edge of the canal leads 1 km to the hydraulic dam offers a nice view of the Rideau River. All the other water control dams I recall seeing are made of wood timbers.
