One doesn't think fish have any family instinct but it seems they do. At the end of the boardwalk at Heron Haven is a nesting colony of Blue Gill. It is fun to watch. These fish stay over their nest and will chase any other fish away. Since they nest in colonies, there is a lot of activity around. If you look closely you can see the twigs that are at the bottom of a depression that the Blue Gill has made.
