At the dead end of a long dirt road 10 km from the most remote section of the highway between Ottawa and Kingston lies Davis Locks, the most remote of all the locks along the Rideau. The day I visited was anything but quiet, however, with several boats moored above the locks for some nice photos and many people enjoying the grounds. Unique to this lockstation is the fortified stone lockmaster's house sitting on the hill above Sand Lake.
