James W. DePeyster {Feb 23, 1745 – Feb 12, 1812} affluent early New York Merchant of Dutch ancestery, A British Loyalist, he left New York for Curacao during the American Revolution returning in the mid to late 1780s. He owned James W. DePeyster's and Co, an import company. [Johannes De Peyster came to “New Amsterdam” New York City from Haarlam, Holland in the mid 1600s.] James W. DePeyster's painting by relative Charles Wilson Peale is in the possession of the San Antonio Museum of Art
