He owned James W. DePeyster's and Co, an import company. [Johannes De Peyster came to “New Amsterdam” New York City from Haarlam, Holland in the mid 1600s.] James W. DePeyster's painting by relative Charles Wilson Peale is in the possession of the San Antonio Museum of Art)
