Just another photo showing the effects following the devastating 1972 Hurricane Agnes, that will go down in history as one of the worst storms ever. Agnes poured nearly 18 inches of rain in two days. Flooding and fires destroyed 68,000 homes and 3,000 businesses, leaving 220,000 Pennsylvanians homeless. One had to see the water levels to really believe the impact. The first photo gives one some idea especially those who know the width of the "valley" through which the Codorus Creek flowed. I was living in Linthicum, MD at the time and worked in Baltimore. The ingress and egress to Baltimore from the south were virtually eliminated.
