Sassy Junior's mom, (the original Sassy) lived mostly in my yard from August, 2011 until May, 2014 when she suddenly disappeared. That's a long time for a squirrel to live in general, and especially to live in one place. She approached me first as she followed behind me in the garden while I pulled weeds and we soon became close friends. She would get on my lap and take food from my hand. She was pure sweetness. Shortly before she disappeared, she had given birth (one of several times). One of her little ones often accompanied her to my yard and feeding station. She was very familiar with me calling the name, Sassy. She continued to come to my yard for food. I couldn't decide what to name her but whenever I would call Sassy, she would turn her head and look at me. So, of course, she should be named Sassy too. She's not quite as trusting as her mom but recently she's gotten very bold. Houdini is a stray outdoor cat who lives (and eats) in my yard and Sassy gets dangerously close to him and even gets on top of his Houdini hut where he sleeps. Just this morning, they were sitting two feet apart, so I can only hope that Houdini is being fed well enough and has become such a good friend to Sassy so that he won't eat her.
