Elbow River Valley

Kananaskis, Alberta

This is an overview of Elbow Falls and shows the dramatic change to the river
caused by the devastating floods of June 2013. The river once flowed over
all of the rock strewn mid-ground. Since the flood it is confined to the channel
you see here. This is close to Bragg Creek on the eastern edge of Alberta's
beautiful Kananaskis Country.

Shot early in the morning, I had intended to work my way around to shoot from
a variety of positions. As it turned out I managed only this one, feeling very much
under the weather. Perhaps the several glasses of a hoppy IPA consumed the
evening before with family and friends played some small part.

A spectacular image ! Great POV, tones and mood ! The long exposure gives a spectral tonality that evokes to me some old paintings of "the wild west"...

a formidable scene, with the previous width of the river in evidence...presumably the floods brought down additional rocky debris to alter the river's route...the long exposure worked a treat here..
