We had a great day with our friends Paul and Karen in New Orleans. We headed out to the Chalmette battlefield where Andrew Jackson was victorious in the battle of New Orleans on January 8, 1815. It is interesting to see the size of this battlefield. It seems quite small.
After that we headed out in search of some lunch. Somebody tipped us off to a place called Sammy's. So we gave it a try and the food was good and plentiful. The mayor of New Orleans, Mitch Landrieu, was having lunch at the same spot. He was gracious enough to pose for a photo. He really is a friend of ours because as a politician he is a friend of everybody.
Last stop of the day was the New Orleans rum distillery. It was an interesting tour and we had quite an array of samples. Also plenty of opportunity to purchase some to take with us. We declined because the rum wasn't very good. I am not a rum lover by any stretch of the imagination, but I do know this stuff tasted kind of off.
