This site is being destroyed for the construction of a huge NYU skyscraper building. The project will destroy the NYU Athletic Center, all trees, gardens, a children's playground & dog run on Mercer Street and the north end of Bleecker & West Houston Streets. The site & skyline will be blocked off with a wall of one massive skyscraper. The details of the use of the new building structure have not been finalized. This is the initial stage of several more skyscraper projects on this super block & another super block north of this block that will destroy additional parks, gardens & children's playgrounds by the NYU Expansion Plan.
