Ardea alba

I finally had a chance to spend a little time out at Houston Audubon’s Smith Oaks bird sanctuary in High Island. I immediately noticed several improvements like a nice ramp up to Clay-bottom Pond and many nice new signs. The rookery was buzzing with activity and I even noticed newly hatched chicks in a couple of the Great Egret nests. I couldn’t resist spending some time photographing these graceful white beauties as they were flying into the nesting area.
