This was my first full day in Lafayette. I headed down the road to New Iberia and Jeanerette to take in a bunch of small museums. They were all very interesting. It is all about the Arcadian experience. In about 1765, the French people started showing up. The first group were kicked out of Nova Scotia by the friendly British. More followed over the years, many invited by Spain to settle the area and stabilize it. We all know where that went. It eventually ended up as part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Anyway, they have their own indigenous culture. They are trying to preserve that culture and the cajun language. Many people speak it. It is a dialect of French, I am told. I ended up my road trip at Parish Brewing in Broussard and enjoyed some of their brews.

When I got back to Lafayette, they told me that I need to head downtown (about five blocks from where I am staying) because there was a free concert. I walked on over and sure enough, there was music going on in the park. It was Roddie Romero and the Hub City All Stars. That's Roddie on the left. They were great. There were lots of people. Beer was flowing, people were dancing, a good time was had by all.
