The Church of Grace was built in the 16th century during the reign of King João III. according to the plans of Miguel de Arruda.
The unique building shows influences of Palladianism. The massive portico that structures the Mannerist facade ends in a double gable crowned by angels.
On the corners of the gable sit four mighty atlases, which symbolize four rivers (and are popularly jokingly called the “Meninos da Graça” (translated roughly “the boys of the Graça Church”)).
