Santander. Plaza Porticada

It is a beautiful square in the city, the arcade square is one of the main cultural access of Santander. It gained international fame because, from the fifties to the early nineties, the various editions of the International festival of Santander took place. It was built after the great fire of 1941 that hit the city. It is a clear example of architecture neo herreriano. It was designed by architect J.Gonzalez of Riancho, following the models of the public buildings of the time. His image was inspired by the ancient customs of the eighteenth century, which was located in this area. The work quite sober, has a square plan with five inputs and arcades supported by pilasters all in clean symmetrical lines.
