The Sagrado Corazon de Jesus Church was finished in 1890 and the architect was Jose Maria Basterra. The style of the church is Neogothic. The ground plan follows the Latin cross, with three naves, a crossing and a polygonal apse. The façade is painted beige and green, which is quite unusual. There are many beautiful stained glass windows in the church. The church is full of paintings on its walls. These were done by the German painter Enrique Immemmcamp, who started painting in 1926 and finished in 1932. There is a side chapel called the Capilla de la Providencia where many masses take place. This chapel dates to 1957. The church was restored in 1993 and is in perfect condition today. The church was built by the Jesuits, who still run it. This is one of the most beautiful churches in Santander.
