Antebellum home, near the small town of Belle Mina, Alabama. The Cedars, was built in 1859 by Peter F. Garrett, ancestor of the present owners, was most likely the last large plantation home built in Limestone County before the outbreak of the Civil War. Though it has seen necessary renovations and modernizations over the years a large amount of the home remains as it was originally constructed by local artisans from materials harvested in nearby forests and from bricks, possibly handmade by slaves. It is very unusual to see an artifact of this kind that has remained under the ownership of the original family's ancestors.
Additionally, many of the furnishings in the home are family originals passed down through the generations to the present owners.
As of Spring of 2015, the Cedars has been turned into an Event Center, but, apparently the Cedars' ownership remains with the Garrett Family.
