M 44, l'Amas de la Ruche - the Beehive Cluster

St-Martin, Valais, Suisse

Joyau du Cancer, l'amas ouvert Messier 44 est connu depuis l'Antiquité.
Galilée y voyait une quarantaine d'étoiles dans sa lunette; en réalité,
il y en a environ 200.
L'amas est âgé de quelque 400 millions d'années. Plusieurs galaxies
lointaines sont visibles en arrière-plan.
