CSX train #N13, nicknamed, "The Monster Train", by a CSX dispatcher when he saw the size and weight of this train. It is indeed a monster that is muscled by beastly power - all GE locomotives, led by #830, an ES44AH, with #5121, a CW44AH, and mid-train units, #828, and #3055, both ES44AH units, with 165 hopper cars, each loaded with 120 tons of Appalachian coal have carefully and slowly eased this southbound, 9,000+ foot, coal train through seven of the nine street crossing in Athens Alabama's downtown street grid. The street crossings are only protected by flashing lights - no gates on any of them. The crew is sounding short, repeated toots of the horn so that motorists and pedestrians will remain aware of their presence. I shot this photo from the south side of South Street, as the Monster Train was approaching Green Street. There's South and East Lee Streets to go.
