Looking south through the Alabama Hills, Horseshoe Meadow Road switchbacks up to an elevation of nearly 10,000' to the trailhead. From there, one can enter the Golden Trout Wilderness to the south, Sequoia National Park to the west, and the John Muir/Pacific Crest Trail to the north.
