Nayland Rock Hotel

The premises was originally built in the 1860's erected as 1-5 Royal Crescent, and was formed as the Nayland Rock Hotel in 1885 (Grade II listed building)
Spinster Martha Riley ran the hotel in the 1890's until July 1911 when Edward Bayley took over. By 1915, Edward was made bankrupt mainly due to the effect of the First World War on seaside resorts. later the same year the Nayland Rock was under new proprietorship, the hotel portion being closed for the duration of the war, though the buffet remained open.
After WW2 the hotel reopened and went through a Major refurbishment making it one of the plushest hotels in Thanet.
By April 1971, Hickmet Hotels of Hastings had purchased the hotel from Trust Houses.
Was then sold on again and In Feb 1982 the Hotel was Closed, but reopened by 1990.
Thanet's only Beach front Hotel was once a top attraction for the wealthy. It was renowned for its ornate dining rooms and fabulous landscaped gardens overlooking the Channel.
Luring tourists and stars, Charlie Chaplin visited in the 1920s, just as his career in Hollywood was taking off, in 1990 Mick jagger held his parents golden ­wedding celebrations here. Amongst many other stars
