Rostrhamus sociabilis
This Snail Kite was from our October trip to Costa Rica. No many how many times I see these birds I am always impressed with their beak. As the name implies the Snail Kite eats snails and that beak has evolved to dig them out of their protective shells. In fact when we first saw this female she was carrying a large snail in her beak, unfortunately she kept her distance until after she finished eating it.
