End of an Era.
Now 43 years old, the Kemper's time seems to have also come and gone. http://www.kansascity.com/news/government-politics/article4139762.html
To replace the 8,000-seat downtown Municipal Auditorium for sporting events, Kemper Arena was built in 1973 on the site of the former Kansas City Stockyards just west of downtown in the West Bottoms. During it's prime, the Kemper played host to the city's professional basketball and hockey teams. The Kemper has also hosted the American Royal Association livestock and rodeo events."
In recent years, however, the Sprint Center has since replaced Kemper as host for major sporting events. Then, in 2015, the American Royal Barbeque Contest was moved to the Arrowhead Stadium.
The future of Kemper Arena is now unknown.
