Shalechet

The Memory Void contains a work by Menashe Kadishman, entitled "Shalechet" or "Fallen Leaves". He dedicated the over 10,000 open mouthed faces covering the floor, not only to the victims of the Holocaust, but to all innocent victims of war and violence. Visitors are encouraged to walk on the exhibit, to see the mouths open in terror, to hear the soundless screams, and to listen to the clanging sounds as they tread on the screaming faces. Being in that Void and walking on the fallen faces evoke powerful emotions which clearly was the intent of the creator.

Very effective! Both the exhibit and your photo.

This hits you in the gut. A very emotional image, probably difficult to walk through there. V

This is the most emotional image in this gallery. Soundless screams is what the photo viewer gets, but being there and walking on the faces and hearing the clanging must be an intense experience. Bravo! V

The figure at the rear is now instantly visible. We now see that she is walking away, leaving the soundless screams of the victims behind her. The story now becomes indelible.

Powerful photo -- the contrast in scale is striking, but the person is difficult to immediately see. You can easily fix it by sizing it larger.
