Since 1288, there was a big building where alms were given (“almoina” in Valencian). Round the corner of the Cathedral is the Palau or Almoina Door. The exterior of the Cathedral, on this side of the square, is elegant and sober, with grilled windows and gargoyles. This place used to be a rubbish dump full of rubbles, weeds and stones. It was dedicated to the family's cemetery as it is written in the 14th and 15th century documents.Next to the chapel where the First Mass was celebrated according to the tradition, when King James recaptured Valencia (1238), there is a beautiful ceramics painting representing the Patron of the city, St. Vincent Ferrer, preaching about the harmony among citizens from opposite parties (Centelles and Vilaraguts)
