Kelp

Clifton Beach, Southern Tasmania

Kelp is like cow-hide. 'Fronds' are sometimes metres long, can be more than a third of a metre wide and hang onto the rock with roots which look like huge suction cups. They withstand constant pounding by major surf as the tides wash over them, and storms crash by and through their forests. I never cease to be amazed at their strength.
