4th Place - The House of the Dead

This is a house, 5 or 6 miles from mine, but a couple of years ago the lighting was so startling for that street that people would stop and gawk...a drunk driver plowed into a crowd....no one really died but more than a dozen people went to the hospital...3 critical...though initially reported dead.

Since then I have always wondered why they put up their Christmas lights...after than. But they do.

The house normal shot is in Pending.

All were hand held, but I can see me opening the shutter first at the center of the frame, scooping down then up into my circle, the circle being obvious...and now the downward and upward swell of the fence-line is also standing out to me.

It is quite creative but I still like my too much booze reasoning.
Were you using a tripod or handheld. Paul

Dear Jim:

Since I am new to this technique myself...hand movements depend on what you want to achieve...lots of horizontals, some verticals, whatever you wish. In six seconds. Longer seems to burn the image, shorter time periods don't give the desired effect.

On this image, I picked a spot in the center foreground and traced a circle as best I could in 6 seconds, trying to come back to my original starting point, I rotated the camera and checked the results...on the 5th try, I seemed to have something I really could work with...but the forground was a pale/pink/orange...hence the use of levels and the black point eye dropper.

I was surprised how effective it was.

I would say maybe he might have had a bit too much to drink that night since we see several of the same style. ;-)

Anyway this one is my favorite of your new style of abstract photography. Paul

Actually, my main question is how you moved the camera.

Again, 6 seconds, iso 100...but the trick is using levels black point eye dropper to get the black background.

Super job on this. When i put the two shots side by side, I still can't see exactly how you got this.
I'm very impressed.
