Finger Cherry (Rhodomyrtus macrocarpa)

The few accounts differ about the edibility of Finger Cherry. One states that the Aborigines ate these fruits. Another states that a group of soldiers ate them and all went blind.
These are not necessarily incompatible because it is documented for some fruits that the Aborigines knew how to detoxify them.

Such a pretty color of this unusual fruit! Perhaps to attract birds?

With that commentary in mind, I think I'd stay away from eating these very pretty fruits. V

Neat shot of this very different looking fruit - no volunteers to try the toxicity ?? V
