Museum of Vancouver

cold and drippy weather right now, so a visit to the local museum proved a dry option...one room features old neon signs preserved from earlier days...the Smilin' Buddha was an eastside music venue dating back to the local nightlife of the 1950s...big bands played there, and later the Kingsmen, 1950s Miss Wiggles (a “marvel in motion” who “dances on her head” states one report), as well as Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix (fired for playing too loud!), and local punk heroes DOA

The Buddha looks happy reclining on the brightly lit sign, while the sign itself stands out well against the black background. V

The sigh looks great. The 1950's performers bring back memories of acts not too far removed from vaudville

So the Smilin' Buddha didn't like Jimi pumping the volume up? That's the only way to listen to Jimi! Neat sign.
