The twentieth of the California Missions (out of 21), this mission was founded in 1817.
Although the original mission buildings were razed in 1870, the replica of the mission was rebuilt
in 1949, with 3 of the original bells displayed in front of the chapel.
The church with the tall belltower was built in 1919, and holds regular services and weddings, funerals, etc.
There is also a parochial school associated with the current facilities.
