The NYU Administration maintains that this park strip is legally a highway owned & maintained by the NYC Transportation Department & not protected by the NYC & NY State Parks Administration. The NY State Supreme Court ruled that NYU has the right to use this public park land to build their skyscrapers here in the heart of historic Greenwich Village.
