My career is pretty much summed up on this wall. It starts with my Basic Training class photo and includes my medic training Ambush/Escape and Evasion certificate. There are 2 photo collages, one for each unit that I was assigned to in Vietnam.
The photo on the left wall was given to me by my friend and colleague LTC Ginny Boyle, the OR Nursing Course Director at BAMC, when I left my position as Course Director at MAMC in 1989. It shows the Combat Medic Memorial at Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio. In the background is the Main Hospital of BAMC, where I worked in the OR and also in the Burn Unit (which was a tenant organization) to start my career. It is very meaningful to me for all of those reasons.
The flag and certificate below it relate back again to Ft. Sam Houston. The flag, a retirement gift from my staff, was flown over the historic Quadrangle at Ft. Sam on my birthday in Nov. 1994, a few months before I retired.
The case with rank, decorations, etc. also speaks to my career. Some of the decorations are significant, some not, but they all carry a piece of my time in the Army.
Personal awards include:
Order of Military Medical Merit
Combat Medical Badge
Legion of Merit
Purple Heart Medal
Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster
Army Commendation Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters
Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster
I am truly fortunate to have had the opportunities that I had and to have been able to work alongside so many dedicated people who also wore the uniform.
